PISSED JEANS (SUB POP)
Pissed Jeans are a rock band from Allentown, PA. The sound of their music is a combination of sludgy bands from the early Eighties like Flipper and My War-era Black Flag and the noise assault of The Jesus Lizard.
Their discography includes Throbbing Organ 7” (Parts Unknown), Shallow LP/CD (Parts Unknown), Don’t Need Smoke to Make Myself Disappear 7” (Sub Pop), Hope For Men LP/CD (Sub Pop), their August 2009 release King of Jeans (Sub Pop), and a 7” released this past October entitled Your Life Is Worth Pissed Jeans .
In an interview with Tony Rettman of Blastitude, Pissed Jeans’ singer described their sound and intent with the following: “The idea was to start a different kinda punk band focused on dead ended carnal cravings, sexual depression…that sort of thing. Mainly we just wanted to bludgeon the listener with dull, monotonous droning rock music that just sucks the energy out of you, the musical equivalent to watching a toilet flush.” (- last.fm)
HOSTAGE CALM (RUN FOR COVER RECORDS)
THIS IS THEIR EURO TOUR KICK OFF SHOW AS WELL AS A VIDEO SHOOT!
Here are some notable five word descriptions from a contest recently held by the band:
“Best Album Of The Year” “youthcrew inspired power pop rock.” “The Most Sexual Album Ever.” “favorite band to make love to.”(i’m reading through these submissions and this kid didn’t follow the rules, but he’s right) “It’s almost better than pooping” “Fuck-rock for the weed age.” “these charming men at work.” “This will get you laid.” “More Powerful Than Gandalf Greyhame.”
With less restriction, this is how I would describe to you what their new album sounds like. Have you ever heard of that movie “Three Men and a Baby” ? Yes, Tom Selleck and Ted Danson and that other guy. Well, imagine if instead of those three guys, the dads were Steven Patrick Morrissey (of The Smiths/Morrissey), Joe Strummer (of The Clash) and Brian Wilson (of The Beach Boys). Add in a nanny of some latin-american descent, and you’ve got a baby who would grow up to write the Hostage Calm self titled album.
END OF A YEAR PERFORMING SELF DEFENSE MUSIC (DEATHWISH INC)
Your favorite band’s favorite band, Cohoes New York’s End of a Year enjoys a distinct renown within the punk community. Well-respected and critically lauded but difficult and idiosyncratic, the band has done things their way almost to a fault. Eschewing sing-alongs and easy anthems in favor of personal lyrics, End of a Year stands apart from their contemporaries in punk and hardcore. Their strangely tense guitar-work framed within otherwise hook laden songs lends the band an unmistakable sound. Opting to be heavy in emotional rather than heavy in sound. (- www.deathwishinc.com)
GIVE (MOONFLOWER RECORDS/REACT! RECORDS/DERANGED RECORDS)
Conceived in Iraq, the back of a van hurtling across the desert, Mississippi, and the leaf shrouded seclusion of a Mount Pleasant basement, GIVE has existed in one form or another for close to five years. We played our first show in November of ‘08, since then we have played many shows in many places. We’ve had two recording sessions, both with Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA.
COLD SNAP (HOT AIR PRESS/GET YOUNG RECORDS)
NOT the band from the UK. For fans of Into Another, Nirvana, Ink & Dagger, gravity(bongs) Neil Young (not that they sound like Neil Young, but they like Neil Young, like me, at least I think they all do) and Hum.
“UNFOCUSED RAGE” from Willimantic Connecticut. Features members of The Book Slave and The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die
